Since its first year in New York, the electronics show has grown over the years. Some of the earliest innovations first on display at the electronics show were the videocassette recorder in 1970 and the digital versatile disk, or DVD, in 1996. Now that most of the world has gone digital, the push to have more has increased. And that is exactly what this year’s electronic show brought this year.
According to the press release detail released by the Consumer Electronics Association, “more than 2,500 technology companies introduced more than 20,000 new products this week at the 2010 International CES, kicking off the next decade of technology innovation(s).” A few of the newest innovations that debuted at this year’s show were the emergence of 3-D media, the next wave of computers, gaming, green technologies, tablets, applications and more.
With 3D becoming more popular in the past few years, Sony took a big step into the future by unveiling their 24.5 inch 3D television, Sony OLED 3D TV. The 3D televisions will allow consumers to watch TV and movies at home in 3D. Since the technology is not available where programs can be watched without the use of glasses, consumers will still need to have them. The glasses that come with the televisions are not the ones moviegoers wear at the movies; these glasses are specially made for the television.
The Active Shutter 3D Glasses have a shutter inside them to enhance the 3D effect for the consumer. There is not a set price and release date for the televisions; however, it was announced that they would be released later this year. ESPN has announced that the network will create a 3D channel.
For consumers who want more in the field of computing, Lenovo says it has the answer with its new hybrid laptop. Lenovo Unveils Tablet Laptop Hybrid, “the IdeaPad U1 has an 11.6-inch display and weighs 3.8 pounds. When the display is attached to the body of the laptop, the unit operates like a typical notebook running Microsoft Windows 7.”
The notebook has 4 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD (
Lastly, one of the most talked about innovations at CES was the Boxee Box by D-Link which won a few awards including becoming a finalist for CNET Best of CES 2010. The Boxee Box is a set top device which streams online content such as YouTube videos, movies, photos and personal movies from a computer to a television.
With a 1080P resolution, downloadable applications, wireless 802.11N, and Qwerty Keyboard Remote, consumers will be able to watch and share anything they want from the comfort of their couch. Currently there is no set price; however; the Boxee Box is reported to come out this year.
