As if it already was not sweet enough to get their first victory of the season, the Lady Eagles of N.C. Central University do it again against their rivals. The Lady Aggies of N.C. A&T State University lagged behind NCCU on the track this past Saturday at the Salley Meyerhoff Fitness Loop in Durham.
The meet consisted of a 4k course relay in which six runners each ran four 1000 meter laps.
Freshman Amber Brooks continued to impress in her second meet of her collegiate career.
Brooks got off to a fast start running her first 1000 meters in 3:11.97 and her second in 3:20.53. Although slowing down a little in her third and fourth laps, she was still able to hold on to the lead, while finishing with a total time of 13:39.25.
She was the fastest of all competitors, pushing the Lady Eagles to their first cross country win, a full lap ahead of the Lady Aggies of A&T.
"I just have it set in my mind that I can do anything," said Brooks.
According to Brooks weights and new workouts are leading to the best numbers of her career.
"I never lifted weights or did any drills in high school, I just ran."
The Lady Eagles are now (1-1) for the season.
However, the men did not fare as well, losing to the Aggies by seven minutes. Senior Jamar Jones led the men for the Eagles with a total time of 13:00.28.
"We have a young team, so most of them still have a lot more learning to do," said Jones.
The Eagles are now (0-2) and look to rebound as they will travel with the women's team, 43 miles down the road to Elon, NC, in the Elon University Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 17.
