David Fitts, Ashley Griffin, Tanya Lipscomb, Brian Moulton, Dee Dee Mozee, Demetrius Phillips and Ashley Roque are newest members of the Alpha Sigma Tau Delta, International Honor Society.
The seven English and mass communication majors were inducted Wednesday. The purpose of the honor society is "confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies." Students inducted into Sigma Tau Delta must rank in the top 35 percent of their class.
"It is an honor to be inducted into a prestigious honor society like Sigma Tau Delta," said Ashley Griffin mass communication junior. "I feel so good about myself and all my hard work has finally paid off" said Griffin.
About 8,500 members are inducted annually into the society and there are over 750 active chapters located in Europe, the Caribbean and the United States.
The ceremony also included the presentation of honor cords to four graduating seniors and graduate students.
"It was a beautiful ceremony and I so glad I had the chance to attend as a graduating graduate student," said Amanda Chambers, an English graduate student.
Guest speaker Rachelle Gold, English assistant professor, addressed the inductees and encouraged them to consider going on to graduate school and becoming teachers.
